Gameplay Strategy

Yaks are easy to start with and play similar to vanilla, as long as you keep a level head during early game. Be careful around ledges, as it is very easy to sustain critical injuries from fall damage. Conserve your stamina by refraining from using YAK SMASH and YAK STOMP until you have found a reliable food source, as while it is tempting to SMASH everything you see, this is very stamina-intensive, and you will quickly starve. As with all quadrupeds, keep one inventory slot clear to take advantage of the speed boost. Only equip a shield in the offhand when it's necessary, and if you haven't found / can't grow food yet, take full advantage of the ability to eat in-world blocks by seeking out the nearest flowers, tall grass, or tree leaves. When you are in a bind and surrounded by mobs, remember to use YAK STOMP for crowd control. Always keep extra food, as you will need it to maintain your abilities. In addition, immunity to freeze damage makes powder snow a minor inconvenience at worst. Use this to your advantage.

Notes and Lore Niblets

Hailing from their namesake nation in the frozen North, Yaks are nigh unstoppable. Their entire culture is based around strength, which they need to survive the unforgiving climate. While Yaks may seem brutish and matter-of-fact in their conversations, remember that Yaks speak their own language, and rarely converse with Equestrians, leaving their true culture a mystery to the ponies. What is known, however, is that when it comes to brute force, Yaks really are the best.
