AGU Recap

Jon's AGU notes:

• NOAA is interested in HAPI; talked to Dmitry V and Ale P. from NCEI who oversees the person doing HAPI development (Josh); they want a significant technical tag-up during space weather week
• also spoke with NOAA higher-ups at an APL / NOAA meeting, and they are interested in more data system input, which maybe APL can provide (this is still preliminary)
• folks from GSFC: Rich S and Stephen K and Ken B who work on MMS/FPI; they are interested in HAPI too for instrument data distribution for MMS
• James G. from OpenDAP - they are very focused on performance
• Steve J from PDS about PPI server; Chase Million has a read-anything tool for PDS data, called pdr - can that be used?
• Kaylin B from MSFC - has HAPI referenced at NASA's new Science Discover Engine (SDE); wants us to review how HAPI is presented and give advice; SDE is about discovery, so HAPI's access focus is sort of separate; we need to look at this during a future meeting
• Earth science connections:
  • Giovanni - a long-standing Earth Sci. tool that has access to lots of ES data and has a suite of canned plots to which you can apply any of the datasets; they drive it off the CMR (common metadata repository) so we would need to find data of interest to ES people; people: Zhong L., Keith B, James A. (Jon to set up meeting)
• Chelle G from NASA HQ: used HAPI Data Explorer Tool for a science / art project but couldn't really find the right data
  • I learned a lot about using that tool trying to help her and have a lot of suggestions
• HamSCI: Nathaniel F. and Bill E; Nathaniel wants us to take a deeper look to see if HAPI can effectively serve DigitalRF data - this is an MIT format that is well established, has a Github repo, etc
• HAPI cache poster - met up with some other developers; many folks have heard about HAPI but dont' quite know what it is yet

• KNMI client - (being used by NOAA!)
• need a more contiguous HAPI developer

• Anyone know yet about the new (not yet released) Heliodata web site? (Brian T and Daniel at GSFC)

Funding - - opportunities we should go for

• Need to find a good NSF opportunity – CSSI again? Needs more science focus and more technological advancement CSSI Sustainability (not frameworks or elements) or POSE are the domain-focused programs. note CSSI is funded 50% by domain directorate so be sure they like it (other 50% is by OAC)
• HamSCI – these folks are still interested
• NASA OSTFL – due in June
• NOAA – what could we do here?
