Sorry for the intrusion, but I just got my FreeStyle Libre and I wonder if a similar application is/will be available for the iOS iPhone.

I carry my phone with me all the time and it makes no sense having to carry a separate device for reading data that the phone could easily read as well.

I'm pretty sure that this picture is a fake... There are a lot of companys which want to have access to the NFC-interface on a Apple device, and they up to now never successed... The only point which maybe could be possible is a Blutooth-NFC adapter, but I'm also sure that abbot will not kill the Navigator-CGM's, and this will be if they provide a tool in that way out of the box... We will see ;)

Hi @vicktor! Any update on that?

@tonypartridge

Guys iOS 11 allows access to the NFC Chip, anyone tried the libre on the allowed access? I have heard they only allow access to a single type so might not be of any use here

@monder

monder commented Dec 30, 2017

@tonypartridge iOS 11 allows only "reading" NDEF tags. There is an API to access NFC that Libre supports (NFCISO15693ReaderSession) but unfortunately it is not available to public (yet?). Trying to use it results in entitlement error.

@tonypartridge
Copy link

I was afraid of them 😣. Doesn’t look like they plan to support it from everything I have read. I was trying to find out what the Libre uses and kinda hoped it was NDEF. But no specs state it. I might just buy a note 8 instead.

@CarlosJimenez
Copy link

You are right. Here you have a nice example https://github.com/hansemannn/iOS11-NFC-Example
But It doesn't work with Libre. I hope Apple in the future open a little bit more the NFCCore.

iPhone 7 and later have the hardware required. iOS 11 has the necessary API: NFCISO15693ReaderSession

However, as of iOS 11.2.1 using NFCISO15693ReaderSession generates the error "Required entitlement is missing".

It may be that Apple will only allow the entitlement to be used by the LibreLink team at first. Or perhaps there is a showstopper bug in the implementation. The LibreLink web site has had plenty of hidden references to the iOS 11 version for a couple of months now.

Abbott says there should be news this month: https://twitter.com/FreeStyleDiabet/status/946956524802445313

monder commented Feb 6, 2018

So the LibreLink app was released, and it does use NFCISO15693ReaderSession

Unfortunately that API still is not public.

Does anyone know whether the situation has been changed from iOS 13?

@vicktor Any luck to connect with FreeStyleLibre with iOS NFC?

@vicktor
Copy link
Owner

vicktor commented Oct 6, 2020

Sorry @gnik2036 , no news. it seems that you need a specific apple permission to be able to read such tags, an entiltlement only for FreeStyle

@orchowy
Copy link

orchowy commented Jan 16, 2021

This is already possible on iOS 13+, using CoreNFC. No special entitlements are required (just Near Field Communication Tag Reading):

RequestFlag flags = NFCISO15693RequestFlagHighDataRate;
[tag readSingleBlockWithRequestFlags:flags
                                     blockNumber: i
                               completionHandler:^(NSData *resp, NSError *error) { ... }];

I've managed to prepare some POC and read raw data from sensor using iOS, but haven't yet parsed it - might share some experience if anybody would be willing to work on it.

Hi!

do you have some published code?

@johan-mattias

I think it might be the case that you have pay for an Apple Developer account to enable "Near Field Communication Tag Reader Session Formats Entitlement"
