Purpose
Node v22.12 broke the Calendar component's unit tests because the month headline changed from e.g. "March 2020" to "2020 March". Node v22.12 updated the ICU data to v76.1 which included the Common Locale Data Repository (CLDR) v46. We were impacted by this specific change:
The Temporal API uses the
iso8601
calendar by default since it covers dates before 1582 and "is the system most often used in computing, on the modern Internet" (ref). I believe we should stick with this default since migrating from theiso8601
to thegregory
calendar would be a breaking change and increase boilerplate code for developers.Approach and changes

calendar for formatting.calendar
prop since support for thegregory
calendar system wasn't fully tested and is partially broken. The prop should be removed in the next major version.Definition of done
