Rust uses a lot of empty structs internally. That caused problems during SjLj preparation step as it expected that every function argument actually has some data in it which should be either copied/bitcasted.

This fix simply skips any action for arguments which have no data inside (structs with zero fields or arrays with zero elements)

When I originally added node RDTSCP_DAG (r207127) I forgot to add
a string name for it in method 'getTargetNodeName'.

No functional change intended.

…P32 and FP64

Summary:
To make this work for both AFGR64 and FGR64 register sets, I've had to make the
instruction definition consistent with the white lie (that it reads the lower
32-bits of the register) when they are generated by expandBuildPairF64().

Corrected the definition of hasMips32r2() and hasMips64r2() to include
MIPS32r6 and MIPS64r6.

…ailable on MIPS32r6/MIPS64r6

Summary:
c.cond.fmt has been replaced by cmp.cond.fmt. Where c.cond.fmt wrote to
dedicated condition registers, cmp.cond.fmt writes 1 or 0 to normal FGR's
(like the GPR comparisons).

mov[fntz] have been replaced by seleqz and selnez. These instructions
conditionally zero a register based on a bool in a GPR. The results can
then be or'd together to act as a select without, for example, requiring a third
register read port.

mov[fntz].[ds] have been replaced with sel.[ds]

MIPS64r6 currently generates unnecessary sign-extensions for most selects.
This is because the result of a SETCC is currently an i32. Bits 32-63 are
undefined in i32 and the behaviour of seleqz/selnez would otherwise depend
on undefined bits. Later, we will fix this by making the result of SETCC an
i64 on MIPS64 targets.

This should clean up the code somewhat, increase clarity, and also

This syntax section was added in r199218 along with changes to the

During an indirect function call sequence on the 64-bit SVR4 ABI,
generate code must load and then restore the TOC register.

This does not use a regular LOAD instruction since the TOC
register r2 is marked as reserved. Instead, the are two
special instruction patterns:

 let RST = 2, DS = 2 in
 def LDinto_toc: DSForm_1a<58, 0, (outs), (ins g8rc:$reg),
                     "ld 2, 8($reg)", IIC_LdStLD,
                     [(PPCload_toc i64:$reg)]>, isPPC64;

 let RST = 2, DS = 10, RA = 1 in
 def LDtoc_restore : DSForm_1a<58, 0, (outs), (ins),
                     "ld 2, 40(1)", IIC_LdStLD,
                     [(PPCtoc_restore)]>, isPPC64;

Note that these not only restrict the destination of the
load to r2, but they also restrict the *source* of the
load to particular address combinations. The latter is
a problem when we want to support the ELFv2 ABI, since
there the TOC save slot is no longer at 40(1).

This patch replaces those two instructions with a single
instruction pattern that only hard-codes r2 as destination,
but supports generic addresses as source. This will allow
supporting the ELFv2 ABI, and also helps generate more
efficient code for calls to absolute addresses (allowing
simplification of the ppc64-calls.ll test case).

When looking at the 64-bit SVR4 indirect call sequence, I noticed
an unnecessary load of r12. And indeed the code says:

  // R12 must contain the address of an indirect callee.

But this is not correct; in the 64-bit SVR4 (ELFv1) ABI, there is
no need to load r12 at this point. It seems this code and comment
is a remnant of code originally shared with the Darwin ABI ...

This patch simply removes the unnecessary load.

When emitting optimization remarks, we test for the presence of
instruction locations by testing for a valid llvm.dbg.cu annotation.
This is slightly inefficient because we can simply ask whether the
debug location we have is known or not.

Additionally, if my current plan works, I will need to remove the
llvm.dbg.cu annotation from the IL (or prevent it from being generated)
when -Rpass is used without -g. In those cases, we'll want to generate
line tables but we will want to prevent code generation from emitting
DWARF code for them.

Tested on x86_64.

Have you submitted this fix upstream yet? We could cherry-pick onto our fork, but we highly prefer that the fix is submitted upstream before applying locally. Maintaining a stack of patches on our private fork becomes infeasible after awhile.

This fix seems small enough, and if you need help writing tests (which will likely be required upstream), I'd be more than willing to help out!

This patch makes the ARM backend transform 3 operand instructions such as
'adds/subs' to the 2 operand version of the same instruction if the first
two register operands are the same.

Example: 'adds r0, r0, #1' will is transformed to 'adds r0, #1'.

Currently for some instructions such as 'adds' if you try to assemble
'adds r0, r0, #8' for thumb v6m the assembler would throw an error message
because the immediate cannot be encoded using 3 bits.

The backend should be smart enough to transform the instruction to
'adds r0, #8', which allows for larger immediate constants.

…airs.

Store instructions do not modify register values and therefore it's safe
to form a store pair even if the source register has been read in between
the two store instructions.

Previously, the read of w1 (see below) prevented the formation of a stp.

        str      w0, [x2]
        ldr     w8, [x2, #8]
        add      w0, w8, w1
        str     w1, [x2, #4]
        ret

We now generate the following code.

        stp      w0, w1, [x2]
        ldr     w8, [x2, #8]
        add      w0, w8, w1

These are really immediate DUPs, and suffer from the same problem
with long instructions with a high/2 variant (e.g. smull).

By extending a MOVI (or DUP, before this patch), we can avoid an ext
on the other operand of the long instruction, e.g. turning:
    ext.16b v0, v0, v0, #8
    movi.4h v1, #0x53
    smull.4s  v0, v0, v1
into:
    movi.8h v1, #0x53
    smull2.4s  v0, v0, v1

While there, add a now-necessary combine to fold (VT NVCAST (VT x)).
