How do I add tags and categories to my Jekyll blog site?

Hi there, I can't seem to add tags and/or caregories to posts. Even though I specify tags: general or category: replit in the post's front matter, it doesn't show up in the URL or the post. How do I solve this?

Forgot to add this, I used permalinks and made category and tag pages which list all categories and tags.
