Transcription Rules
There are several transcription/transliteration rules available. You may specify which rule to use when converting between two specific scripts.
This romanization is based on the official Korean language romanization system (국어의 로마자 표기법) in South Korea.
Due to technical limitations to discern names and classify words, this implementation does not properly produce correct romanization for the following:
- Final consonants in personal names get phonologically changed. For example, 이석민 is romanized to "iseongmin" instead of "I Seokmin"
- Administrative units are not hyphenated. For example, 강원도 becomes "gangwondo" instead of "Gangwon-do".
- Proper nouns are not capitalized.
The Revised Romanization of Hangul or RR Transliteration is used for exact letter-to-letter transliteration, where the romanized writing is able to be accurately reversed back to Hangul, usually for academic application. The romanization is based on the official Hangeul romanization system (한글의 로마자 표기법) in South Korea.
Sample romanization differences between RR and RR Transliteration:
한글 | RR | RR Transliteration |
---|---|---|
잘 먹었습니다. | jal meogeotseumnida. | jal meog-eoss-seubnida. |
Transliteration of Hangul based on Standard Korean Alphabet Transliteration System (SKATS). It is a bidirectional Korean Morse code mapping using Alphabet characters.
This rule is derived from Revised Romanization to transcribe Hangul to Latin script with Indonesian Spelling standard (Ejaan Bahasa Indonesia 2015), with additional diacritics and vowel to differentiate e (é è eu) and o (o ö) sounds, similar to Acehnese and Sundanese Latin scripts.
Since it is derived from Revised Romanization rule, all limitations apply to this implementation as well.
Transcription to Cyrillic script based on Sistema Konsevicha (Систе́ма Конце́вича). Similar to RR, this implementation does not make proper capitalization of words.
