How to contribute
In the same spirit as free software, sound samples in the FreePats project are distributed under free licenses. Any uploaded content must be original, its origin and authors must be known and it must be published under a suitable license.
Feel free to contribute or get involved via the mailing list or write an email to freepats@zenvoid.org.
If you have access to a real musical instrument, it can be recorded to create a sound bank. See the list of instruments and find which ones are missing.
- Record sound samples at 44kHz 16bit or more.
- Use good quality microphones and an acoustically adequate room if possible.
- Document all information that you have about the original instrument, microphones, recording equipment and conditions. Include photos if you want.
Please visit this page for more information about sampling: How to record an instrument
You can create a sound bank, either using sound samples recorded by yourself or taking sound samples from an instrument in the FreePats archive that has not been converted to a sound bank format yet.
A smaller, lower quality version of a sound bank is sometimes useful, when full quality is not required and to use less resources. That's specially important within mobile applications.
If a high quality version of the same sound bank already exists, it should be easier to create a small variation.
Please contribute tutorials and examples about installing and using sound banks within free software programs, creating and editing new sound banks, audio processing, synthesizers, technical details about sound bank formats...
