Revert, Revert 'Direct download link to Docker for Mac and Windows (#… #7464
Conversation
Deploy preview for docsdocker ready! Built with commit 721facc |
As, the creator of the original #7242, I approve of this revert and it's contents into master. It appears someone may have compromised @JustinINevill's account and maliciously removed code from the master branch without approval (#7446) |
I tend to ask stupid questions but why assign someone whose account is potentially compromised and which currently won't be accessed until the problem was figured out? |
Someone please approve this |
This generated a lively discussion for the docs team; thanks for that. Also I've not been hacked. |
can you pls share some conclusions? |
Agreeing with MichaelSp. This has been closed without any further actions and there are still no direct links while the preview posted by GordonTheTurtle looks a decent bit better in that regard. This has been an issue that has been going back and forth shortly after it first occured and now all of a sudden this is not relevant anymore? |
If the management does not have legitimate reasons to login-wall the download and yet they do it anyways, regardless of the protest from the community, it marks a route towards the death of the official docker repo as a community based project. I believe that the controlling of the official release does not give you control of the project. Nor does the controlling of the package manager. The backing of the community down to a single user is the key to longevity. Me, I won't be uninstalling docker or anything just yet. But I know I need to keep my eyes on alternatives that I feel more comfortable with. So much for your user experience. |
This fixes #6910, #7179, #7244 and regressions #7445 and #7445
