[BUG] Spotify Web Player #149
Comments
Do you have widevine enabled? https://bitmovin.com/demos/drm |
Just tried that link. It says it's enabled and the video plays for me, I'm using your downloader, so I think it installs widevine with it? Does the Spotify web player work for you? |
Huh, no it does not. I don't use Spotify so I just made an account now to test this. Exact same issue where the music cuts out after ten seconds. What kind of weird stuff are they doing?! It's probably going to be hard to debug this, since it looks pretty clearly DRM-related... |
There are CLI spotify clients, maybe that could be used as a workaround |
Update the card details section. This is a problem today. No option to enable it either to allow the web player to work. |

A workaround for anyone who needs it, reportedly these versions of the official Spotify desktop clients still work, provided you don't use a third party service to login. (Disclaimer: I haven't tried it myself as I don't use Spotify.) https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/spotify-downloads-for-legacy-intel-macs.2409983/ |
I just tested it again, I couldn't get the 10.7-10.10 version to work. I think they turned off support for everything before 10.11. What's even worse is that the spotify web version has started acting up in Firefox now, so I think i'm all out of luck for spotify on mavericks. |

Spotify recently shutdown older versions of the app for 10.9, 10.10. It would be great to be able to use the spotify web player as an alternative. Only trouble is I can't get it working on my 10.9 machine. If I try to play a song it'll skip a few and play for about 10 seconds and then cut out.
Now from what I can see this is an issue other people have reported on the Spotify forums, so this may be a Spotify issue that can't be fixed, in which case I'll close this as right now the web player does work in Firefox 78. Link to Spotify issue (https://community.spotify.com/t5/Your-Library/Music-stops-playing-after-10-seconds/td-p/5370112).
Also if the web player works for other people on Chromium-Legacy let me know as it may just be a problem with my computer.
