New:
- Automatic detection of search type: You can now type Jyutping, Pinyin, traditional, simplified, or English/French to search, and Jyut Dictionary will switch search settings automatically. If the auto-detected option is not what you intended, you can continue to manually specify which way you want to search.- Audio files from Google: Instead of using your OS' text-to-speech engine, you now have the option to download and use audio files generated by Google TTS. These audio files are available for both Cantonese and Mandarin and do not require an Internet connection to be played once downloaded.
Improvements:
- Prioritization of Cantonese search results: The search algorithm has been modified to prioritize Cantonese entries. For those who mainly use this program for Mandarin, this prioritization is disabled if all Cantonese dictionaries have been removed from the list of sources in settings.- Kerning on macOS is fixed: By updating to a newer version of Qt, the issue where commas/periods appeared to not have a space after them is fixed.
- Behind the scenes, a lot of testing has been added so that future changes will be more resilient against accidental bugs.
- Bugfixes for AppImage, so that it launches properly on Fedora as well as Ubuntu.
- Instead of checking GitHub for new releases, Jyut Dictionary will now check jyutdictionary.com.
- Minor translation fixes.
Notes:
- Linux support: .deb builds have been dropped and will no longer be produced. Audio is broken on non-Ubuntu platforms in the AppImage, this is a known wontfix issue.- Windows support: 32-bit Windows builds have been dropped and will no longer be produced.
