What version of melonDS DS are you using?

1.1.1

Does the problem happen in standalone melonDS?

No, it's a bug specific to melonDS DS.

What happened?

As i understand, melonds ds is supposed to pick the default system language somehow.
However, since i run my systems in english (Android 11 and Archlinux+plasma), i'd liek to play in Italian and i'm using the option Firmware:language:Italian.
However M5,M6 games supposed to be in italian, and which works with the override to italian in MelonDs standalone appear to be in english.

What should've happened instead?

Game in Italian.

Which platforms do you see the problem on?

  • Windows
  • macOS
  • Linux
  • Android
  • iOS
  • tvOS
  • Other (specify below)

Which versions of the OS?

Archlinux (rolling) Plasma

Which libretro frontend are you using?

Retroarch 1.18.0

Which games are you trying to play? Are you certain that they support Italian? If not, they might be falling back to English. What happens if you boot to the DS menu without loading a game?

Yes, they are italian (game 0201) via standalone melonds.

How can I boot into the ds menu? I use the emulator / builtin firmware

How can I boot into the ds menu? I use the emulator / builtin firmware

  • Install the firmware
  • Select "Load Core" in the main RetroArch menu and pick melonDS DS
  • Select "Start Core" to start the emulator without loading a game

With the official firmware it works as intended, firmware itself and game.
It fails to do the same with the built-in one tho.

Also, unloading the built-in firmware leads to a stall and retroarch needs to be brute-closed.

Huh. Interesting.

On which platforms? If it occurs on Linux, which mic driver are you using?

I believe you're encountering this upstream bug; if that's the case, then I'll close this ticket once this fix is integrated into melonDS DS.

The standalome Melonds version I reported to work without the issue at the very first post of this bug report is "Beta 1.9.3 PS"

I don't know if it was supposed to have the bug.

Yes, but the bug I'm referring to was introduced after the most recent stable release (i.e. it's not in the version you cited).

My testing has shown that I've fixed this bug, but I'd like your opinion. Does this build work as expected for you?

I tried to update cores from the android online updater and got 1.1.7 that seems to work fine in overriding the language with the built-in firmware.

Yep! 1.1.7 contains the fix for this issue and a few other unrelated ones.
