I don't want to be rude, but I would really appreciate it if it were
possible to add the battery status in percentage and the battery charging
progress. That would be awesome! :)

How can I calibrate the device as accurately as possible?
Dňa pi 21. 2. 2025, 7:21 Gissio ***@***.***> napísal(a):
… That’s not an good idea.
The problem is that batteries in Geiger counters are produced by different
manufacturers, each with unique discharge profiles. These profiles are also
influenced by factors like temperature and battery wear. That’s why Rad
Pro’s battery indicator is simplified to just four bars, providing a
general estimate.
In contrast, mass-produced devices like smartphones benefit from a more
controlled environment. Manufacturers can precisely measure and calibrate
the battery’s discharge profile—accounting for temperature and wear.
For more detail, check the battery voltage in the statistics menu.

"Thank you for the information you provided and also for your time
dedicated to the development of this meter. I believe that for
informational purposes, the meter is good, and even if radiation levels in
the air increase, at least a person has some information about it."
Dňa pi 21. 2. 2025, 10:57 Steffen ***@***.***> napísal(a):
… If you select the appropriate Geiger tube that is installed in your device
under "Conversion Factor" in the menu, that is sufficient. It simply makes
no sense to try to measure the Doe rate "highly precisely" with such small,
uncompensated counter tubes. Compare that with the voltage that the lead
battery in your car has: whether it has 12.1 volts or 12.9 volts still
makes a big difference. But whether it has 12,851 or 12,853 volts is
completely irrelevant. But of course you can measure this with a suitable
measuring device.
In addition, the calibration factor for the Chinese counter tubes is only
known for Co-60, and for Russian counter tubes only for Cs-137. Since the
counter tubes are not compensated (which is a big science), the dose rate
is only correct for the specified nuclide. With lower energy, there is a
greater probability of response - so the dose rates for Ra-226 or U-nat
(pitchblende), for example, are displayed too high. The problem cannot be
solved without changing the hardware. Energy-compensated counter tubes cost
more individually than 5-10 Chinese Geiger counters, and the devices
equipped with them cost more. In return, they can be calibrated and the
dose rate is correct over a wider energy range.

It is a common misunderstanding that Geiger Counters can also be used as dosimeters. A Geiger counter by nature is not capable of accurately measuring radiation dosage rates in any normal situation. Particles across a wide range of energies all cause the same avalanche in a GM tube. The tube can only be used to measure a count not accurately measure particle energy. Scintillation crystal-based counters can measure dosage because the energy of the photon is proportional to that of the decay particle that released it. |

Hi, probably a stupid question, but why when I set the dead time of the
tube, for example, to 176 which I measured after long-term testing, I turn
on the device and the dead time is reset and starts from some large numbers
in the statistics? When I look at that number, it decreases from a large
value. Do you know what is the maximum value that can be measured with this
device? And thank you very much for the 2.1.1 update and your time :)
Dňa ut 25. 2. 2025, 9:25 Steffen ***@***.***> napísal(a):
… But it is also not true to say that you cannot measure a correct dose
using counter tubes. After all, many commercial dose measuring devices have
a Geiger-Müller counter tube built in. But as already mentioned: They have
a special design feature: they are energy compensated. They have a uniform
response sensitivity over a wide energy range.
But it is true for the few devices supported by RadPro: Due to their
design, the devices are not suitable for measuring a correct dose or a
correct dose rate if the nuclide is not known.
