QA Steps

Prerequisite:

1. Have a workspace with multiple categories and at least 2 tax rates (A & B) with different values (not including the default 0%)
2. Assign category A with tax rate A and category B with tax rate B

Manual:

1. Open workspace chat
2. Create a new money request with the category A
3. Open the transaction thread and verify the tax rate is the tax rate A
4. Edit the category to category B
5. Verify the tax rate changes to tax rate B

Split:
7. Go back to workspace chat
8. Create a manual split request with the category A/B
9. Press the split preview and verify the tax rate is the tax rate of the selected category
10. Create a scan split request with the category A
11. Press the split preview and verify the tax rate is the tax rate A
12. Change the category to B and verify the tax rate changes to tax rate B
13. Split the scan request
14. Press the split preview again and verify the tax rate is the tax rate B

Categorize:

1. Open self DM and create a new track expense
2. Choose Categorize it
3. Select category A/B
4. Verify the tax rate on the confirmation page is the tax rate of the selected category
5. If the workspace is not the workspace from prerequisite, go back and select the workspace
6. Categorize the expense
7. Verify the created expense has the selected tax rate from step 4

  • I verified proper file naming conventions were followed for any new files or renamed files. All non-platform specific files are named after what they export and are not named "index.js". All platform-specific files are named for the platform the code supports as outlined in the README.
  • I verified the JSDocs style guidelines (in STYLE.md) were followed
• If a new code pattern is added I verified it was agreed to be used by multiple Expensify engineers
• I followed the guidelines as stated in the Review Guidelines
• I tested other components that can be impacted by my changes (i.e. if the PR modifies a shared library or component like Avatar, I verified the components using Avatar are working as expected)

I think there is still 2 things to fix on the BE.

1. Updating the category. When updating the category, the tax rate is updated optimistically, but the response from the BE "revert" the update to the previous tax rate.
2. When categorizing track expense, the selected tax rate is saved, but not the amount.

The tax amount is passed to the API (the tax amount below is different from the video above because it's a different track expense I recorded above)

but the BE returns the tax amount as 0.

Looks like it's a new issue. I tested by selecting a category with the default tax rate (0%) and change the tax rate manually to 5% and it works.

I have a workspace A with categories A and B. Category A has a tax rate of 5%, while category B has the default tax rate, 0%.

This works fine:

1. Create a new track expense
2. Choose Categorize it
3. Choose category B
4. On the confirmation page, the tax rate is 0%
5. I change the tax rate to 5% and submit
6. The created expense shows the correct tax rate and amount

This doesn't work fine
