Have you considered update of dependencies incl. use of jQuery 3 (and 4 in the future as there is already beta for that)? Latest jQuery 2 update is from May 2016 (and is no longer supported for a long time and it is a bit rare to see it used somewhere these days). I guess similar issue will be with some other dependencies...

A useful thing might be to also set up Dependabot (can help with that if needed).
