Sometimes, overall with many apps, a search button comes in handy. Also (maybe), if when you've searched for an app there's exactly one match, it could launch the application automatically.

Where exactly do you want to have the search functionality? As a separate activity? E.I. when you press the search button a new activity pops up with a search bar. Or directly in the app drawer fragment, like in the stock launcher? If so, do you want it to search through all applications or just the once in the selected tab?
I think it would be better integrated in the app drawer itself, also, it should be able to search through all the tabs (because if you're searching for an app, it is because you don't know where it is ;)
However that would take a little of space (very little though, it all depends on if it's a good idea or not)
