Every time I get new mail mailnag floods the notification area. About 10 times a repeated 'new mail' message.

I noticed it since transitioning from gnome-shell 3.20 to 3.22.

I'm having the same issue, also started when going from gnome 3.20 to 3.22 (on Fedora 25). Any help would be appreciated!

I also seem to have this issue on ubuntu 17.10 using gnome-session.
I am not sure what is causing it but multiple process are spawned.
ps aux|grep mailnag should show only one process but when the problem arises I can have 12 or more process. using the extension you can select "quit" and it will terminate one process.
once you have one process running mailnag and the notification area will return to normal operation.
this is using mailnag 1.2.1 from the ubunbu repo. the extension from the repo does not work but the one from extensions.gnome.org does work.
