This probably ought to be a pull request, but I see there are several that have been pending for some time, and I don't have a lot of experience of making one. I wanted to try Serial output from graphictest_slim on a Leonardo but found that it doesn't fit if I allow those lines, so I tried making most string constants stay in Flash, with:
println(F("Some string constant"));
Here is the changed version of graphictest_v25.cpp, which works. There are some changes at the start of setup() to use Serial output, then various changes to print("... and println("..., adding F() around the string constants:
#if defined(__AVR_ATmega32U4__) //Leonardo
#define HOW_SLIM 3
#else
#define HOW_SLIM 0 //no slimming measures
#endif
// All the mcufriend.com UNO shields have the same pinout.
// i.e. control pins A0-A4. Data D2-D9. microSD D10-D13.
// Touchscreens are normally A1, A2, D7, D6 but the order varies
//
// This demo should work with most Adafruit TFT libraries
// If you are not using a shield, use a full Adafruit constructor()
