Pierre Segonne{:style="width: 200px; overflow: hidden; border-radius: 50%; float: right; padding-left: 20px"}

I am an engineer and (data) science enthusiast. I am interested in understanding how learning processes can uncover hidden mechanics of the universe, be that through data science, complex systems, or energy dynamics.

Education

* M.Eng in General Engineering, [Ecole CentraleSupélec](https://www.centralesupelec.fr/), 2021
* Exchange student, [The University of Sydney](https://www.sydney.edu.au/), 2019
* Preparatory school, [Lycée Ste Geneviève](https://www.bginette.com/), 2015

Work Experience

  • 2023 - : Tech Lead (Electricity Maps)
    • Electricity Maps' mission is to organise the world's electricity data to drive the transition towards a truly decarbonised electricity system.
    • Leading the development of Electricity Maps data platform. Focus areas:
      • Automation of data quality processes
      • Unifying our data offering from historical, to real-time, to forecasted electricity data.
      • The ambition is to become the single source of truth for electricity data.
    • Leading the expansion of the forecasting infrastructure. Running more than a 1000 models simultaneously.
* 2021 - 2022: __Data Scientist__ ([Electricity Maps](https://electricitymaps.com/)) * Responsible for ensuring that ElectricityMaps' data is accurate, reliable, and timely. * Owning the building of the modelling infrastructure to power our estimation and forecast systems. These models allow for large scale load-shifting from e.g [Google](https://blog.google/outreach-initiatives/sustainability/carbon-aware-computing-location/).
* 2021 - 2021: __Research Assistant__ ([Denmark's Technical University](https://www.dtu.dk/)) * Developing a novel method for robust uncertainty quantification using out-of-distribution pseudo-inputs training under the supervision of [Søren Hauberg](http://www2.compute.dtu.dk/~sohau/).
* 2020 - 2021 (part-time): __Data Scientist__ ([Tomorrow](https://www.tmrow.com/)) * Tomorrow's mission is to build tools to empower people to take climate action. * Automating the generation of total carbon footprints, for both [North](https://www.tmrow.com/blog/sunsetting-north/) a carbon accounting app and [Bloom](https://www.tmrow.com/blog/closing-down-the-bloom-chapter/), a carbon-accounting SaaS. * Powering models with accurate emission factors.
