coordination/Lease object leaderelection?

Are there any plans to write a Lease https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/blob/f6b54f79fb8163af7cd39a4c2c9c31f973c2becf/staging/src/k8s.io/api/coordination/v1beta1/types.go#L27 implementation of the resourcelock interface so components can use it instead of configmaps? Or are configmaps the way to go? Thanks!
