I have an application that won't open properly from a group. I had the same issue using Taskbar Groups. This software is a little unusual.

It is called Advantage III.

It has a start menu shortcut located in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\SCT\Advantage III. If I put that shortcut intp AppGroup the application does not start. If I open that shortcut directly from the folder, it works. It launches the application as administrator, so I have to approve that before it runs.

The shortcut itself doesn't seem to setup like a normal shortcut. I created a shortcut for one of the .exe in the same directory it points to for comparison, which is on the left. The start menu shortcut is on the right. It doesn't have a Target location, and the Target is just "Advantage III", not an entire path to a .exe. so it's not clear what it is actually pointing to. It seems that launch.exe runs the program properly but I'm not sure there aren't some arguments or something in the start menu link that I'm missing.

Additional info. I put launch.exe into an AppGroup and it doesn't work. I get this error. Running Mako.exe directly doesn't work-- it doesn't ask for admin permission, and it doesn't recognize the dongle that is required for the software.

have you tried right clicking the program from app group and click run as Admin?

I get the same error if I run as administrator. I am a little confused about what the preferred method is to add an item to a group. It seems much easier to find it in the existing start menu, but it seems that the start menu items are actually scattered across a few different places. Is it better to go directly to the application? In this case I can't tell from the shortcut exactly what it is running.

I know this is a bit late, but I just started using AppGroup a couple of days ago lol

I found more than a few problems using shortcuts (to certain apps) with Pike's updated Taskbar Groups, as well, so I created folders for each of my groups, and created symlinks to the executables I wanted to use. The only shortcuts I have left are those for app from the Store, or programs installed using .appinstaller files (basically the same kind of thing).

I made all the shortcuts for the Store apps from shell:AppsFolder, right clicking each app I wanted and creating a shortcut (which it always drops onto the Desktop).

For this app, maybe try a symlink. Hermann Schnagel's Excellent Link Shell Extension helps make symlinks a lot easier, but it's native to Windows and you can do it without any third party apps.
