2. Madgraph5_aMC@NLO

(dubbed MG in the following)

2.1 general characteristics

  • calculates cross-sections and generates processes for any process at particle colliders
  • universal: given an input process, MG produces the source code to calculate the corresponding cross-section
  • described in arXiv:1405.0301
  • calculates processes at LO QCD, NLO QCD correcions may be included

2.2 how to install MG

2.2.1 system requirements

  • Python 2.6 or 2.7
  • Fortran compiler supporting quadruple precision (needed for NLO)
  • gfortran v4.6+ OK
  • optional:
    • gnuplot - to draw distributions created my MG
    • FastJet (FJcore is included in the tarball) - to cluster hadronic jets
    • LHAPDF - to use your favourite parton distribution functions - a default internal set exists
    • Herwig++ / Pythia8 - to add the non-perturbative part of the calculation

2.2.2 download MG

(ignoring the optional tools)

mkdir MGTutorial
  • download the latest version of the program
cd MGTutorial
curl -LO https://launchpad.net/mg5amcnlo/2.0/2.7.x/+download/MG5_aMC_v2.7.2.tar.gz
tar xzf MG5_aMC_v2.7.2.tar.gz
  • if curl fails, change curl -LO into wget
