@gustavkj I wanted to ask you, and I couldn't find any other way to reach you., how are you using codeowners-generator? is a mono repo? it will be helpful to understand your context a bit more. Thanks!

awesome. We have something really big and is a mono repo, we have created a bunch of tools to deal with ownership, that might be also helpful for you, have you seen https://github.com/gagoar/use-herald-action ? this is today the one that compliments codeowners. and it has been really useful.

I hadn't looked at it before, something like that could be interesting. But the problem is that we're using Github Enterprise, so in that case we'd need to set it up as a Lambda function/Github App. So there's a bit of overhead to get some of that automation going.

My current hope is to get more granular (and relevant) code ownership, then we can turn on code review assignment so that everybody's not pinged on everything.

But yeah, we use kinda conventional commits when naming our PRs. There are certain scopes my team is interesting in in particular, for which a tool like gagoar/use-herald-action could be useful.

I see. that might be tough (not being able to. use actions), the current GitHub pipeline is quite useful. We recently migrated our entire codebase to use these systems, and in that migration, we end up creating a lot of tiny actions like triggering lambdas or even getting GitHub installation token when you have an app.

Making use-herald-action a lambda could be doable, but we will lose the ability of loading rules directly from the file system.

I wasn't aware of these limitations. it's an interesting problem.

Some good news. There are discussions about enabling Github Actions on our Github instance. Fingers crossed! 🤞

re: Github Actions, let me know when you guys start trying to build the workflows, because we got the chance to (re) build all our pipelines in there, and we end up creating tools to get tokens (from GitHub apps) to trigger lambdas from workflows to even get the organization login to inform your systems instead of using the GitHub user (that sometimes is confusing)
