Using servers like your home PC

Treating the server like a PC you have at home, turning off the annoying IE Security prompt, installing un-managed software or 30-day trial copies of an app 'just to get the job done' and never uninstalling it years later, installing multiple browsers (Chrome + Edge + Firefox) because tool A only works on Chrome, B on Edge and C on Firefox, and finally sitting in the server room surfing the internet, unfiltered (as per another rule).

Seems like this is the RESULT of a bad practice: not providing developers and engineers with the tools and access they need for their jobs.

I am talking about admins not developers. If you are letting developers logon to servers that's a whole new can of worms. As for not having tools they need - that's not likely. Example someone using IE11 on XP because that was the only tool that could connect to Hitachi web console. This when the server was in the room behind them. Finally, there's no excuse for the other two things whatsoever.
