*On consciousness*

- The sensation of consciousness is real, but beyond that is tough to say.

- Free will exists within constraints, in the same way a goldfish has freedom and autonomy within its fishbowl.

- I subscribe to the general philosophy of a modern branch Idealism (poorly named, in my opinion) that is best articulated by Bernardo Kastrup and Donald Hoffman, which posits that consciousness is the primary nature of reality, and matter is secondary. The simplest way to think of it is that a cosmic consciousness is having a very large dream about the universe, and we are fractals of that consciousness in the same way that we can be a character in our own dreams.

72+
- There is a quality of consciousness that is more valuable and fundamental than will, which is just pure experience and awareness.

### Personal Mythology
187-
You know that kinda overused metaphor where we represent the world's history as a 24-hour day and talk about how recorded history started somewhere around 11:59pm (and 45 seconds, or whatever) as a way of gaining some perspective about our place within the Earth's timeline?

### Prisoner's Dilemma
192186
I love everything about prisoner's dilemma ([wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner%27s_dilemma)) because it is a way to think about collaboration and competition directly, and to even experiment with different ideas to test their practicality in different kinds of situations. It's a little difficult to fully get at first, but then incredibly rich once you do. I've held 3 prisoner's dilemma tournaments the last couple years. The twist on the other games is that in my tournaments people decide on strategies within 3 teams, and so the "dilemma" takes a few different forms: the strategy you have against people on other teams, the strategy your team has against other teams, and the strategy you have within your own team. It has led to some really interesting results that I'm still trying to fully understand. It's a set of questions and ideas that my brain seems to return to when it has a little spare time between other projects.
