Looking for newcomer support to this repo and wondering what preferences you had on precommit requirements, tests, etc.

I don't have any predefined requirements for this repo yet, aside from using cargo fmt to format the code. I'll come up with a CONTRIBUTING.md file when I have time, but for now if you want to submit a PR feel free to write the code however you like. Current unit tests are not that strict either, they simply check that the code is doing what it's supposed to do, some of them should be refactored. I'll suggest changes to any PR if I see something odd.
