The ctrl+home key combination generally takes you to the start of a document. In our case it will only take you to the start of a block.

I do wonder if we should adopt a similar approach here as we do with the select-all feature, if you're at the start of a block, move to the start of the document instead?

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • OS: Windows 10
  • Browser Chrome 68
  • Gutenberg 3.4.0

I accidentally duplicately reported it, but it's definitely a bug, and also applies to CTRL + END too. The current behavior is different both from old WordPress and any textarea. See #11726 for screenshots.

I think this has been solved now @Clorith. I am using Chrome on a Mac and when I Ctrl + Home I am taken to the top of the document. Here is a video:

I am going to close this as solved but please feel free to reopen if needed. Thank you!

I can confirm this has not been resolved, the ctrl+home/end only work within the currently active block, and not the document as a whole.

Versions:

  • WordPress 6.1.1
  • Gutenberg 15.4.0 (tested both with and without plugin)
  • Chrome 111.0.5563.111 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Thank you for reopening this, @Clorith. Could this be a Windows-only thing?
I cannot replicate this in Mac OS Monterey + Chrome.

Not unlikely, Windows testing has historically been lacking in WordPress projects (nature of the beast, as it were, not many devs use Windows), so this kind of functionality often slips under the radar :)
