• Chris Myers is going to have a Coursera(?) course that uses SBOL
• We should put past tutorials on YouTube as possible

SBOL Visual How-To

• Capturing tutorial
• SBOL Visual Gallery on SBOL Standard website
• Quick starter guide for how to get the glyphs into Illustrator / Inkscape

Who is assigned to these tasks?

• Nobody yet, still working through the details and definition of tasks
• SBOL Visual Gallery will be a collective effort of the Editors
  • Will require assistance from the Community for examples
• Do a literature search for SBOL visual diagrams

The Approach

• We could get things done if we had a budget
  • Do we spend time finding donations/funding?
  • Does SBOL Industrial have budget to fund some of these efforts?
• Marketing campaigns can be expensive. Is this the right use of funds?
• Marketing Campaign Audiences
  • Educators: people who teach synthetic biology, for example
  • Societies and their journals: ACS, for example
  • Later/future goal: get SBOL Visual into tools
• There is an international audience for SBOL/SBOL Visual

COMBINE SBOL Sessions

• The PDFs are in slack
• Focus on community facing items
• What are the tools we want to tell the community about?
• SBOL-Excel and SBOL-Utilities seem to be key enablers
• Chris Myers: The converter is a show-stopper. We need that.
  • This is in SBOL-Utilities and is started
  • There are known holes, and there is a base that is working
  • This is set up to be crowd-sourced. There is a framework and a bunch of "not yet implemented" markers
  • There is also a Genbank converter that works under many circumstances and has some known holes

Jupyter Notebooks

• The IWBDA tutorial is in the repository of notebooks

Offline Tutorials

• We'll be working on setting things up for asynchronous learning

Action Items:

• Prashant to create a road map
• Tom to update the Steering Committee on the web site
  • We should remove those who are not active and replace them with new people, who are not the usual suspects
