Describe the Bug

Graphics: The main menu displays a gray box. This box persists throughout most of the game unless software mode is activated, which degrades game performance;

Save/Load crashes: Saving or loading the game often results in the game crashing;

Crash on a specific level: loading the level "The Wang Fou Incident" causes the emulator to crash, it stops responding and shuts down.

Reproduction Steps

Enter the game, save, load, load the level The Wang Fou Incident

Expected Behavior

Ideally, the game would work like Hitman 2, with gameplay close to 100%

the loading bug is mentioned in #8830 ( for some reason i think loading in SW fixes it) also the hw mode being slow is referenced in #4251

Please provide a memory card with a save file for the broken Wang Fou level.

Regarding the level, you can use the level Select cheat, at the main menu screen enter the code square, triangle, circle, left, up, right, L2, R2 and choose The Wang Fou Incident. Anyway, I'm going to leave a save and a savestate attached, just exit the level, choose current game and the level mentioned

In version 1.7.5318 everything remains the same.

Saving and loading are now working, now we need to fix this matte film in the middle of the screen.

Saving in "The Wang Fou Incident" still causes general crash. I'll leave here the exact moment of the crash bug, just load the save state, press "x" and move on

Play in software mode, but the game will become slower

I have the solution. Go to Emulation settings and disable "Enable Multithreaded VU1 (MTVU). Just fixed it myself.

Ok this fully fixes the game. It fixes some freezes that happen in Deadly Cargo, it fixes The Wang Fou Incident loading and it fixes loading the saves from Asylum Aftermath or The Wang Fou Incident through other levels or the main menu. Outside of some slowdown in the main menu (only 80% of the speed), the game is now fine and actually playable without freezes. It didn't degrade performance for me though I guess for people with lower end CPUs this won't be a clean solution as they may have performance hits.
